The MT GOP E-Brief and Supreme Court Justices

I was wading through my junk mail folder today and came across the MT GOP E-brief for the past few months–you have to hand it to Gmail for deciding that those messages were junk without my input–and came across come interesting posts about Supreme Court nominees.

On 10/5/05, I received a MT GOP Special Alert that said

This week, President Bush announced his choice to succeed Justice Sandra Day O’Connor as the next Supreme Court Justice: Harriet Miers. Ms. Miers is the third woman to be nominated for the Supreme Court, and like Justice O’Connor, she is a legal trailblazer. Ms. Miers is an extremely well-qualified and fair-minded individual who is committed to interpreting the law instead of legislating from the bench.
President Bush selected Ms. Miers after embarking on a thorough and deliberate thought process.

Then, on 11/3/05, the regular E-Brief offers this quotation from Congressperson Denny:

“Judge Samuel Alito is obviously well-qualified, and therefore deserves a fair and dignified hearing followed by an up or down vote. Montanans deserve to see their elected representatives conduct this process in a manner that avoids partisan sniping or pandering to special interests.”

The comparison certainly isn’t flattering. I also suspect that Denny isn’t talk about the rabid right-wing religious fringe when he talks about special interests.
