The Independent Record on Blogs

So, the IR doesn’t like blogs. In a review of the site amateurgourmet.com, the ever-present IR Staff writes:

For the most part, I just don’t get blogs. They make sense in certain scenarios, but when it comes to your average Joe blog — “Today, I fed the cat. Then, I made coffee.” — who wants to write them and who wants to read them? Fortunately, Adam Roberts, aka The Amateur Gourmet, is not your average Joe. He is hilarious, and his writings — centered on his culinary adventures — are a delight to read and informative, too.

Hmm…I wonder if they have read any of the paper’s columnists lately, like this hard hitting piece of journalism from today’s paper:

I love a good roast beef sandwich, but I don’t eat them often. When I do, I only buy the best, and that means roast beef from the Real Food Store.

Or perhaps this piece of investigative work:

For some reason, though, I truly never ever get sick anymore, to the point where I sometimes wish I would, just so I could stay home.

A few weekends ago, I spent Thanksgiving at Chico Hot Springs with my mother, brother and sister and my sister’s kids — including one sick, projectile-vomiting baby Jack.

Maybe it’s not the best idea to attack personal blogs when the IR’s campaign to make itself relevant to younger readers seems to involve myspacing as much of the paper as possible.
