In today’s Missoulian article, Senator Burns complained that Montana newspapers had not reported about this claim in the Las Vegas Review Journal:
The source, who requested anonymity, said the Justice Department is leading the investigation, which includes other agencies.
“But the Justice Department does not have a list of lawmakers who are being investigated,” the source said.
Now, I only went to law school for two days before heading towards the cash that teaching has afforded me, but doesn’t this seem, on face, to be absurd? It would mean either 1) Abramoff cut a deal without having any valuable information about anyone in Congress, or 2) that the Justice Department is randomly running around Washington, without any idea who they might prosecute. Given that we are dealing with the Bush Administration, I suppose anything is possible, but come on.
