I am sure by now that many readers have seen the TV advertisements for Conrad Burns and the response by the MT Democratic Party. If you haven’t seen Connie’s ad, do yourself a favor and head over to www.conradburns.com, if even just to have a cheap laugh.
A lot of attention, including the bulk of the Democratic response, has focused on the fact that Conrad’s ad is misleading because he was clearly influenced by money he received from Abramoff. His ad also implies that he didn’t even take money from Abramoff, because he focuses the ad on how the “attack ads” of the Democratic Party were made by people who took Abramoff’s money. Of course, even that is a lie, because the ads were created by the MT Democratic Party with the cooperation of Tester for Senate. I think one would be hard pressed to say that the state party or Jon Tester took money from Abramoff.
But the last time I watched the ad I realized a very interesting statement made, which I find particularly telling. Conrad says “So I’m going to keep on doing the right thing, delivering on jobs, healthcare, agriculture, veterans and more.” One can certainly argue with his record on delivering for Montanans, but what I found was most startling was that he was “delivering on” VETERANS. Does that mean he is going to keep them coming? I had no idea that there was an industry of veteran production.

Well, Dan, the Republicans are certainly delivering on more combat veterans…just not benefits for them.
