just got a little stranger. Listed on the page is this disclaimer:
An April 24 article about the U.S. Senate race in Montana misidentified a political scientist at Montana State University in Billings. He is Craig Wilson, not Craig Harris. The article also said that Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) accepted $150,000 from Jack Abramoff that was later returned. Most of that money came from Abramoff’s lobbying team and its clients rather than from Abramoff directly.
So, they got the correction on Craig Wilson, but what precisely is the argument being advanced about Burns-Abramoff? Receiving the money from Abramoff’s lobbying team is somehow distinct from receiving it from him directly? Was the Post Office involved? They actually delivered the money, I assume.
If you’re going to correct something, a good strategy is to be right.

The distinction is like the distinction we argued for with Baucus when the Republicans claim that Max took money from Abramoff. He didn’t he took it from an Abramoff client — although even that characterization is highly specious. It’s important to remember that Abramoff’s team weren’t robots answering to his beck and call. Most of them were equally corrupt, but they bought in on their in their own ways. And, in the case of Burns, the honest characterization is every bit as damning. No reason not to use it.
