Earlier, I mentioned that Conrad Burns was a top ten recipient of oil money largesse in 2006. When it comes to money, though, Conrad always exceeds my expectations: he leads the pack. From Congress Daily, the top recipients of big oil’s PAC money (84% of which went to Republicans, incidentally):
The top recipients of those donations for the 2006 cycle were Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., $39,500; House Speaker Hastert, $35,000; Energy and Commerce Chairman Barton, $31,500; Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, $28,250; House Resources Chairman Pombo, $27,000; Sen. George Allen, R-Va., $26,100; Sen. Craig Thomas, R-Wyo., $24,000; Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, $22,500; Ways and Means Chairman Thomas, $20,500, and Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La., $20,000.
Hmm. For what oil companies have given Conrad, I could fill up my car in the neighborhood of 993 times. Given his efforts to bring back bacon for the state, think I could persuade him to send some my way?
So, for those of you scoring at home, Conrad is a Senate leader in three categories: 1) out of state oil money, 2)racist jokes, and 3)pending indictments.
