I am traveling to Seattle this morning for a training and have some free WiFi at the lovely (and seemingly complete after years of “homeland security” construction) Helena Regional Airport and poked around the web for some reactions to the Tester-Burns debate. I found a number of blogs that I usually don’t read checked in on the debate. Some of the more interesting thoughts:
DownWithTyranny, who is apparently without regular blog access as they are in a log cabin for the summer, has this to say:

Conrad’s verbal skills and ability to think on his feet are on a par with W’s so sometimes the camera would cut to Jon while Conrad was responding, or trying to, and Jon was just chuckling and I could almost hear him saying to himself that this is like taking candy from a baby.

John Tester took on Conrad Burns in an hour long debate this morning
and handled him quite well. Conrad said, and I quote “goodness gracious sakes alive” on five separate occasions. He is less coherant than George Bush and he has beady eyes and a bad haircut. He’s got nothing but folksy -republican-speak-cliches and he’s done. Tester has to
pander to the tighter border, traditional marriage, anti-flag burning “moderates”of Montana but the Spectacle imposes certain demands.

Tester won easily. His comments were more focused and detailed, whereas Burns seemed to wander at times, losing his train of thought. Tester’s little jokes were mildly humorous, whereas crickets sang to the clumsy attempts of wit and humor offered by Senator Burns. Burns did pick up steam towards the end, but it was too little, too late. Tester dominated the debate.

I have decided after watching the Montana Senate debate that candidates for public office need to receive more comprehensive debate prep from their respective campaign organizations.

I must say, as a lot as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a great grasp around the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so very much. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just heading for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your personal thought process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.
