Full Disclosure: I’m Not That Big on Hemingway

There’s been some discussion from anonymous posters at Left in the West who are concerned about a lack of disclosure on the site. These media critics, who demand accountability behind screen names that hide their identity, are right: we bloggers are often remiss in our duty to explain how our blog work deviates from our professional lives. So, time to disclose.

I am a literature teacher. However, I, in contravention of the attitudes of many people who share my profession:

  • Abuse the semicolon
  • Find most Hemingway tedious
  • Would prefer to teach Arthur Miller than Shakespeare
  • Often grade papers in colors other than red

My sincere apologies for not making these thoughts clear from the outset.

I am not actually concerned by anyone’s lack of disclosure. Matt Singer offered to tell us what political differences he has with his employer. I mistakenly believed he was sincere. If he didn’t want to do that, he sould not have said he would. I don’t have an axe to grind (on this.) I’m not asking for irrellevant personal information. I just took Matt at his word.

I’ve been in the same situation before. It is not an easy an answer as you think it is, its something that you’ll have to write out for yourself over time.

Simply to follow up on the update of this theme on your website and wish to let you know just how much I prized the time you took to write this beneficial post. Within the post, you spoke on how to seriously handle this issue with all comfort. It would be my pleasure to accumulate some more suggestions from your web-site and come up to offer other individuals what I have learned from you. I appreciate your usual good effort.

Just out of curiosity, what’s your experience in the industry like? I searched around the site and couldn’t find a bio or anything. Either way, thanks for the info!
