No, but close. Rick Jore is going to be our committee chair for the education committee. We all know his views on education; his website insists that he “is not of the persuasion that schools need more money” and that the federal government has no constitutional authority to fund education, and thus he will “oppose all federal funds appropriated for education.” Just what we need! The kicker, though, isn’t who he is, we all knew that, ok, whatever he’s apparently representing his district. It’s that he got to be the chair without asking. Republicans did that all on their own.

A concilliatory note was struck by Mike Lange, a House Republican leader, when he was talking about the criticism from the education community. “”We owe them no explanation whatsoever.” Words of a man dedicated to compromise, no doubt.
