max.pngIt's time for Senator Max Baucus to do the right thing. Following the lead of Senator Tester and Representative Rehberg, it's time for Max to start telling Montana voters how he spends his days in Washington.

Members of Congress need to know that they work for us, and that we are entitled to know who they spend their time with. It's a fair expectation in a representative government, and there is no excuse for Senator Baucus to keep us in the dark. I urge you to contact Senator Baucus at one of his offices today, to politely request that he bring his schedule out into the sunlight.

Update: The Billings Gazette wonders where Max is, too.

The past few days have definitely shown that Elizabeth Edwards is someone who has the strength to take on the right wing attack machine without conceding their agenda. Today, she showed incredible class demonstrating what a despicable beast Ann Coulter is, and yesterday she straightforwardly said that she supported the idea of gay marriage, without resorting to the typicallytepid Democratic support for "civil unions."

Leadership is saying the right thing, with dignity and honesty. If only the candidates for nomination would start to follow her lead…

Dear Dell Corporation,

This letter is hard for me to write. We’ve been together for a long time, since I purchased my first laptop from you six years ago. We’ve been through operating system upgrades, driver incompatibilities, and even an occasional hardware malfunction.
Through it all, I’ve tried to stay loyal to you, but I’m not sure that I can deal with this relationship much longer. You don’t seem to care about me any more; in fact, you seem distant, almost unimaginably foreign, and I can’t understand you any more. You’ve changed.

I called you today because you had recently canceled an order I placed because you decided it was a duplicate order. When I tried to explain to you that if the order was a duplicate, there must be another order somewhere, you hung up on me rather than try to talk it through. That hurt and confused me, though not as badly as your accent, which really limited effective communication. It’s as if the only words you really knew how to say were “Hello, this is Dell” and “I’m sorry,” but I really didn’t believe you either time. Those words sounded rehearsed, and not from the heart.

I knew we weren’t exclusive, Dell, but I was surprised to learn just how many people you’ve disappointed and how many hearts you’ve broken.I don’t want to be like those people, stuck on hold in my relationship forever. It’s time for me to move on.

Sincerely,

Don Pogreba

P.S: I’ve already got my eye on someone else.

As one point or another, I have seriously considered running for
political office and that might still be in the plans for one day for
me.  For right now, however, I am very, very happy in my career
and my connection with politics: taking shots from the sidelines.

As a teacher, it is really important to me that there is something
who shares my beliefs in education sitting in the Superintendent of
Public Instruction seat.

What Students Should High Schools Prepare for College?

20 June 2007

Not all of my students intend to go to college. Many of them believe that college would be a waste of time and money, hope to work in fields that do not require an advanced degree, or simply don’t enjoy education. These students would (and have) told me that high schools should not be so [...]

Montana GOP? Classy!

20 June 2007

I don't know Lt. Governor John Bohlinger other than a couple of very brief introductions, but his reputation as a legislator was very positive.  I know a lot of Democrats and Republicans that thought very highly of him before he became the Lt. Governor. What has happened since Bohlinger joined the Schweitzer?  The cold shoulder.  [...]

$4 gasoline? GIve me a SUV!

20 June 2007

Ugh.  It took me almost $50 to full up my gas tank last week.  Prices for fuel are high enough that it made more financial sense to fly to lovely Portland, Oregon this month and rent a car while I am here to visit friends and family and do a little volunteer work than to [...]

Hope, Even in Kansas

18 June 2007

It will be a quiet week here, as I am in Kansas for debate nationals with my students, but I wanted to mention one sign of hope from our delightful cross-country drive. Even here in Kansas, there are some tired of this President, as demonstrated by the enormous billboard we saw on I-70, emblazoned with [...]

Trent Lott Wants To

14 June 2007

I'm no fan of talk radio, but a comment by Trent Lott in tomorrow's New York Times certainly gave me pause: Comments by Republican senators on Thursday suggested that they were feeling the heat from conservative critics of the bill, who object to provisions offering legal status. The Republican whip, Trent Lott of Mississippi, who [...]
