Thank You to Another Former Student

I’d like to thank another one of my former students, Robert Funk, for his thoughtful letter to the IR today about their coverage of the death of a local solider:

You are the HELENA Independent Record. When one of the members of our community dies in a war you should cover it, and not with the sleight of hand you gave this boy’s death on Sunday. Instead of dedicating over four pages to a football victory, why not dedicate a page to this brave young man? You call yourself our community paper, but you are nothing of the sort. You bury a young man’s death on the third page of your paper next to a Macy’s ad. It is nothing short of deplorable behavior and you should be more than ashamed of yourself, you should be disgusted.

Don is an English/Debate teacher and debate handbook author who lives in Helena, MT, and who can't imagine living anywhere other than this glorious state. Much of his writing happens late at night and he is unlikely to respond to your comments during the day.
