McCain visited Billy Graham’s home today. Obviously, this was another attempt by McCain to energize a less than impressed evangelical segment of the Republican party. Did the visit backfire? Pretty much.
Franklin Graham, Billy Grahma’s son and head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, “issued a statement that highlighted what he had in common with McCain: sons serving in the military and a shared interest in aviation.”
Yup, that was it. No endorsement was made (although McCain claims that gaining the Grahams’ endorsement was not his goal). I’ll venture to guess that this visit will not help McCain’s standing with some of his party’s more socially conservative members. In fact, it will probably hurt him more than anything.
