I got a good chuckle out of today’s story in Politico which suggested President Obama was in trouble, because his recent decision to allow stem cell research “has led to a reassessment of Obama by some Christian conservative and other religious leaders, who now charge him with inflaming the very cultural divisions he once pledged to heal.”

The very balanced article notes that independent swing voters like Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Douglas Johnson of the the National Right to Life Committee were very upset about the decision, and planned to monitor future actions by President Obama.

Far be it for me to speculate about how other people vote, but I’m betting that the people who support these organizations probably didn’t pull a lot of levers or punch many chads for President Obama last fall.

These groups have also grown accustomed to eight years of a federal government pushing their extremist agenda onto the the American public, so it’s understandable that’d they be upset. To suggest, however, that this represents a problem for President Obama is just absurd.

What does the public as a whole say? Only three in ten think embryonic stem cell research is immoral.
