A Much Worse “S-word”

Alright, so I know that attacking Rush Limbaugh for being a racist or an idiot is like shooting fish (or overpaid, arrogant dimwits) in a barrel, but this was really shocking, and I couldn’t even read the whole transcript (racism to follow):

“This is well-known Indian squaw Elizabeth Warren. ”

Now, I don’t care really whether Elizabeth Warren has American Indian heritage or not, or for that matter, whether she hates America: There’s words you don’t say. We learn that when we are kids, or in often awkward moments when we are growing up. I can think of a half dozen words that might actually get Rush thrown off the air (Dr. Laura went down for using one of them). That word should be one of them. The fact that, in all likelihood Limbaugh will suffer no ill effects for throwing this ugliness onto the airwaves, is merely evidence that American Indians in this country enjoy substantially less respect, or even thought, than other minorities in the minds of the US cultural elite.

But maybe I’m wrong. In that case, see ya, Rush. In any case, even if people on the coasts aren’t bothered, perhaps he should at least be off the airwaves in the Mountain West, where we have a hard-won sensitivity to words like that.

PS if you’re curious if Rush is on to something when he gets past his racism and on to his actual point, which is that

“Now, a couple of interesting things about this. Let’s look at roads, for example. Which came first, the paved road or the car? Well, which necessitated which? I would submit to you that the car came along, and then the government (and all of the people that really made this thing work) built the roads.” ,

here’s some Wikipedia articles for you.

  1. Then you must be pissed at Ann Coulter also.

“Elizabeth Warren, who also goes by her Indian name, “Lies on Race Box,” is in big heap-um trouble. The earnest, reform-minded liberal running for Senate against Scott Brown, R-Mass., lied about being part-Cherokee to get a job at Harvard.Harvard took full advantage of Warren’s lie, bragging to The Harvard Crimson about her minority status during one of the near-constant student protests over insufficient “diversity” in the faculty. Warren also listed herself as an Indian in law school faculty directories and, just last month, said, “I am very proud of my Native American heritage.”

  2. Well yes, Ingy, though I hadn’t read that before. Good to see that racism is alive and well throughout the Conservative Shouting Elite, and it’s not just Rush.

    • I’m thinking that after these November elections over 60 million of us are going to be “racists”.

      • Why’s that, Ingy? Voting against someone of a different race isn’t racist. Calling them racially offensive names in the process of doing so, is.

Here’s the thing – I’m willing to bet that if Rush or Anne lived in Montana or South Dakota or New Mexico, they wouldn’t be talking like that. Perhaps they are simply ignorant – ignorant that the stereotypes they are perpetuating are hurtful, ignorant that there are still millions of people who suffer under those stereotypes every day. Or maybe American Indians just aren’t a big enough market for their advertisers to make them give a dam.

        • Oh I whole heartily agree, but that won’t stop the left from calling voters racists when Obama looses.

As far as Rush is concerned he gained listeners when he said, “I hope he fails”. He also gained when he called whatshername a slut. You guys ranted ’bout it and it brought more attention.

I hven’t seen the latest Arbitron ratings but I’ll wager he’s still has the most listened to radio show in the state.

          • I’d like to buy that big fat racist moron a beer……..IN THE JIMTOWN BAR! Ever been drinkin’ there, Ingy? It’s kind of a tough crowd. They would give Rush the welcome he deserves.

For the record, I have seen WAY to much racism against the Indian people, whom I count many among my closest friends. And my own family has a good deal of Native American blood too. My wife’s granddad was an enrolled Sioux.
