Liz Bangerter’s Curious Campaign Finance Report

Shares

This evening, I took a look at HD80 candidate Liz Bangerter’s campaign finance report for October and I found myself terribly confused. It seems that the Bangerter campaign gave donations of $630 to Rick Hill, $620 to Sandy Welch, and $620 to Tim Fox, all between October 1st and October 15th.

Initially, my reaction was surprise that a candidate would demonstrate that kind of hubris in the weeks before a contested election, especially from a candidate whose radical views are so out of step with the district she represents.

It became especially interesting when I looked Sandy Welch’s campaign finance reports. Not only does her report incorrectly list everything as a primary expense/receipt, there is no record of a donation from the Bangerter campaign to Welch. Instead, there are two individual donations from the Bangerter family, one for $310 from Elizabeth Bangerter and another for $310 from Carl Bangerter.  donation of $620 from the Bangerter campaign listed on Welch’s report.

On Rick Hill’s campaign report, there is a single $630 Individual donation from Elizabeth Bangerter. No mention of a campaign donation.

On Tim Fox’s campaign report, there are two separate donations of $310 from Elizabeth Bangerter listed.

While the amounts transferred from the Bangerter account are within the limits allowed by law, this is certainly a sloppy set of transfers–and one has to question how a check from the Bangerter campaign could be listed as two individual donations from the Bangerter family.

Perhaps most important, though, is that Liz Bangerter is more interested in electing a radical slate of statewide Republican candidates than in using donations to her campaign to meet with and inform voters in her district. If she’s more interested in working for Rick Hill than informing her constituents about her position on the issues, I suggest those constituents giver her the free time to do just that in January.
