Steve Daines: Job Killer

While Representative Steve Daines won’t answer questions about his history of supporting the530842893aae2.preview-699 outsourcing of American jobs to China, he probably should answer questions about his decision to co-sponsor legislation that would have cost one million people their health care coverage and increased the deficit by $74 billion dollars.

Talking Points Memo reports that, in yet another Republican effort to reform/reduce/reimagine the Affordable Care Act, 200+ Republicans in the House, including Daines, want to pass a bill to change the definition of a full-time work week from 30 hours to 40 hours. That, according to the CBO, would be a disaster:

An analysis of the bill, released Tuesday by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and Joint Committee on Taxation, found that it would cause 1 million people to lose their employer-based insurance coverage. The report projected that more than 500,000 of them would end up getting coverage through Medicaid, the Children’s Health Care Program or the Obamacare exchanges. The rest, CBO and JCT said, would become uninsured.

The legislation would also lower the amount the federal government collects in penalties from businesses who don’t abide by the employer mandate. As a result, the report found, the deficit would go up by $74 billion over 10 years.

It’s time for Mr. Daines to buck the TEA Party extremists who run the House and start representing Montana voters.
